About the Cover

Cover Figure

The figure illustrates the findings from a comprehensive tandem mass spectrometry analysis of the whole proteome of the extremely halophilic archaeon Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 separated into membrane and soluble fractions. All proteins identified in the study are displayed as circular nodes in the graph visualization software Cytoscape (www.cytoscape.org). Green shading indicates proteins identified in the membrane fraction, orange denotes proteins identified in the soluble fraction, and white denotes proteins identified in both fractions (see inset). The location of the nodes in the layout is dictated by their functional role in various aspects of metabolism indicated by red circles. Proteins with roles in more than one aspect of metabolism are located equidistant from those categories in this graph. Proteins of miscellaneous or unknown function are shown to the right. For details see the article by Goo et al., pages 506-524.
