On the cover, up to four samples are digested and separately labeled at the peptide level with amine-reactive isobaric tags. After mixing, the combined samples are subjected to two-dimensional LC and analysis by MS. As the tags are isobaric, the derivatized peptides appear as a single species in MS. Following CID, the tags sub-fragment to yield distinct, low-mass reporter ions that provide quantitative information. For details, see the article by Ross et al., pages 1154–1169.
