On the cover, the digestive tract of the medical leech Hirudo medicinalis. An MS-based ion perturbation approach to detect protein interactions between serine-proteases and inhibitors, called intensity fading MALDI-TOF MS, was performed using this complex biological sample. The robustness, efficiency, and biotechnological-biomedical potential of the approach are confirmed by the extensive list of new trypsin-like inhibitors identified. For details, see the article by Yanes et al., pages 1602–1613.
