On the cover: An unknown enzyme with 7-xylosyltaxanes glycoside hydrolase activity was isolated from the mycelium of the mushroom Lentinula edodes. By combination of protein LC-MS/MS de novo sequencing with RT-PCR/RACE strategy, the putative gene of the enzyme was cloned and the enzyme was characterized. The cloned gene was introduced into Pichia pastoris and the recombinant yeast could efficiently convert 7-xylosyl-10-deacetyltaxol into 10-deacetyltaxol for semi-synthesis of pactitaxel.
